This semester we've discussed ten different accepted screenplay genres.  Out of the 10 choose 5 and define them in terms of their guidelines and give what you believe is the perfect film to exemplify the genre.

HERE IS AN EXAMPLE (WHICH YOU NOW CANNOT USE:)

Golden Fleece:

TITLE:  Harold and Kumar go to the White Castle.

RULES:    There must be a "road" a "team" and a "prize."

JUSTIFICATION:  The team of Harold and Kumar set forth on a quest for their prize, the wonderful sliders from the White Castle.  The pair hit the road, have set backs and adventures which lead finally, to their prize.

CHARACTER:  Define each of these Essential Qualities of the screen character.

1.              Dramatic need

2.              Point of View

3.   Personify an Attitude

4.              Experience a Change or Transformation

PART TWO

2.    Choose one of the following pieces as your inspiration for your work:

A SHORT POEM BY PHYLLIS MCGINLEY

Sticks and Stones can break your bones

Aimed with angry art.

Words can sting like anything

But silence breaks the heart.

The Lion And The Mouse

A LION was awakened from sleep by a Mouse running over his face. Rising up in anger, he caught him and was about to kill him, when the Mouse piteously entreated, saying: "If you would only spare my life, I would be sure to repay your kindness." The Lion laughed and let him go. It happened shortly after this that the Lion was caught by some hunters, who bound him by strong ropes to the ground. The Mouse, recognizing his roar, came up, and gnawed the rope with his teeth, and setting him free, exclaimed: "You ridiculed the idea of my ever being able to help you, not expecting to receive from me any repayment of your favor; but now you know that it is possible for even a Mouse to confer benefits on a Lion."

Your Assignment:

1.              GENRES: Choose one of the TEN GENRES to guide you in creating your screenplay.  Justify your decision in three to five well written and brilliant sentences.

2.              TITLE:  Create a killer title.  You may use something within the poem or fable. You may also create the title from your own vivid and brilliant imagination

3.              LOGLINE:  One or two sentences that brilliantly define your screenplay.

4.              BEAT SHEET.  15 beats within your screenplay.  Label each beat and describe your choices in two to three sentences for each beat.  Please keep in mind that I will be giving special attention to the beat of THEME!

5.              CHARACTER.  Decide on your main character and create a one to two page double spaced CHARACTER STUDY essay.  Be as detailed as you can, but also write with style and energy. Make sure you hit each of the FOUR POINTS OF CHARACTER! Identify each point in your essay.

EXTRA CREDIT
