PERMISSION SLIP

To the Parents,

Your Sunny Hills student has chosen to audition for the 2010 Spring Musical THE WIZ.  Before this process can be completed, please read the following information carefully and sign below.  This PERMISSION SLIP must be returned by Friday’s audition on 1/6/10

Rehearsal schedules will vary from day to day.  Because the three teachers who are responsible for the acting, singing and dancing of this show are limited in time and other jobs, the schedule is subject to change.  Please keep in mind, however, that rehearsal for the musical will take precedence for all students over other outside activities.  If your student cannot make all rehearsals because of a job, then please do not allow him/her to audition.  The same applies to some school activities, and we can make a very FEW exceptions every now and then, but we will be fairly inflexible.  Please schedule doctor and dentist appointments accordingly. 

Because we are going to have to make and/or buy costumes for this show each student will be required to participate in fundraisers to raise $180.00 each to cover the costs of material and the building of the costumes, as well as the costs of bringing in professional musicians, body mikes, set, etc. We have scheduled a variety of fundraisers, such as See's Candy Sale before Valentine's day, the selling of ads in the program, two shows that will direct the ticket money directly to the student seller, and more.  Or, if you prefer, you can simply write a check made payable to SHHS Drama.

We will make every attempt to end our rehearsals no later than 6:30 PM.  At times they will end earlier, occasionally they will end later.  Please be advised that Monday, January 11 is Open House. We will be rehearsing that day until 8:30 pm.  The week before the show rehearsals can last until 10:00 PM, depending on how the show is going.  The Friday before the show, March 5, is our tech rehearsal that can go on until after midnight.  Everyone involved in the show is REQUIRED to be there the entire time.  Also, on non school days, such as February 8 and February 15, there will very likely be a mandatory rehearsal.  Family vacation plans should be scheduled around those days.  We will also be taking Saturday, February 27 to build the set and finish costumes.  This is mandatory.  There will DEFINITELY be a MANDATORY rehearsal on Saturday, March 6, which is the Saturday before we open.  Please be aware that these dates are not up for negotiation.  Personal events, family concerns, doctor’s appointments, dance competitions, etc are not valid excuses and may result in your student being let go from the production. Before signing this PERMISSION slip, carefully consider the commitment to this endeavor.

Being in the musical is a huge obligation of time and energy compacted into a short period of time.  Please make sure that your student is prepared to make that commitment.  There will be a parent meeting for all cast and crew members, date to be announced after casting has occurred.

Also, PLEASE REMEMBER, if your student makes call backs, that audition often goes until about 12:00 a.m.  We take the audition process very seriously and the dance audition takes a long time.  If you feel you cannot allow your student to stay for the entire process, please do not allow him/her to audition.

I give my permission for __________________________  to audition for the Sunny Hills Spring production of the musical THE WIZ.  I understand that s/he is responsible for participating in all of the organized fund raising activities and will raise a minimum of $180.00 due on or before February 22.  Also, I am aware that rehearsal attendance is mandatory and may not be missed for any reason unless prior approval has been given by the teacher running that particular rehearsal.
